MRMS is designed to run on any PC-compatible system under Windows95/98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. Its component-based, scalable logical architecture can run on a single workstation or spread across a number of machines in a network.
s an Internet-enhanced client, MRMS POS applications use, but do not rely upon, Internet connectivity to function. MRMS supports unified browsing by embedding links from within the application, incorporates IE5 for accessing information on the network and processing client-side scripts, and uses ActiveX components for inter-process communications. Using ActiveX components, the POS application and the browser can interact and share data. MRMS implements a three-tier architecture. This structure not only improves reliability and security, but delivers significant advantages in critical areas of control, scalability, performance, flexibility, growth and standards, including the avoidance of proprietary lock-ins.
MRMS uses the latest Microsoft SQL Server 2000 technology, which is scalable from the PC desktop to the enterprise server. For the desktop, MRMS uses the embedded Microsoft Database Engine (MSDE) to run under Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. For larger installations, SQL Server 7 can be used. SQL Server 7 offers database size up to terabytes, provides reliable database access, and supports data warehousing and OLAP.
